Ayurvedic Chronic Rhinitis Treatment

According to Ayurvedic philosophy, rhinitis, or dushta pratishya appears due to imbalance of pitta and kapha because both of these are very pivotal in our respiratory system and thus dietary regimen is important in healing aspects . Pitta is an Ayurvedic humor, which symbolizes heat or fire as has been evident in all our ancient ayurvedic texts. Kapha is another Ayurvedic humour, which manifests as a mucus like substance, that is dense, heavy, firm, stable, slow, thick, sticky, wet, clear and cold in nature so any dietary susbstance which aggravates pitta / kapha should be discouraged and patient should not take those foods. Aggravated pitta and kapha produce heating mucus-like toxins and its the blockage of these toxins in our body which can result in numerous abnormalities. These toxins circulate in the blood and are transported through channels to weakest part of body resulting in the development of chronic ailments. In such a case, the weakest part of the body is the respiratory system and thus chronic rhinitis is the results which can be quite troublesome for patients on many aspects. Heating, mucus-like toxins accumulate in respiratory system and leads to rhinitis so patients are advised to take advice of physician and stay on a recommended dietary protocol as well with sincerity.

Diet & Lifestyle Advice for Patients of Chronic Rhinitis

  • - One should avoid foods which increase pitta and kapha dosha such as fried, oily, deep fried, sour and excessively sweet foods because an intake of these foods will further result in aggravation of blocked toxins in our body channels.

  • Citrus fruits (lemon, lime, orange), chutneys, sauces, fermented food, mustard and vinegar should be avoided because all these as well aggravate pitta and kapha dosha resulting in more chronic nature of ailment. One should avoid foods made from white flour such as bread, cakes, pastries and pizza etc. because these are not very well digested in our body and thus results in blockage of channels.

  • Artificial foods, fast foods, cola drinks, and tomatoes should be avoided because all these also aggravate the pitta and kapha dosha. Tea, coffee, alcohol and smoking should be avoided as these contain harmful substances which further vitiate our cellular physiology.

  • In addition, very cold, frozen and heavy foods (which are difficult to digest) should be avoided because these all also result in further vitiation of dosha in our body.
